The Definition of Life in Microvita Cosmology

A new, spirtually oriënted scientific paradigm should provide a very clear and unambiguous definition of Life.

Traditionally, life is thought to be characterized especially by the qualities like growing and (self) replication. Allthough growth and replication seem so far unique to (organic) life, it surely doesn't cover all that life entails. One day, also programs or computers or nano-robots may replicate themselves, but they are not alife. Also, the demarcation of life is not alltogether unambiguous. For example crystals also grow and in a way replicate. But are they alife? And what about atoms or dna or celestial bodies?

Philosophy offers a much broader spectrum, including the principles of life-force and self-awareness which are clearly beyond the scope of traditional science. But philosophy fails to provide a straightforward, universal causal framework, and thus cannot be scientifically applicable.

A breakthrough appoach in understanding a true definition of life may come with Shrii P.R. Sarkars subject on Microvita and Cosmology.

Shrii Sarkar starts with pointing out: "allthough this may not be an easy subject, we should study the impact of the inferences on the propensities [of the mind]". He then proceeds giving the utterly condensed outlines of an alltogether new cosmology, shortly called Microvita Cosmology. This new approach seems unlike anything the world has ever seen before, either in science or philosophy.

In this new approach, the concept of "Purusa" in philosophy has become specialised into two distinct faculties of the Universal Entity, namely "Krta Purusa" (Actional Principle) and "Jina Purusa" (Knowing Principle). The difficult subject of how the inferences affect the propensities is explained by how Krta Purusa relates to Jina Purusa, as follows:

Firstly:

- Inferences are the objective manifestation of Krta Purusa, the Actional Principle, and
- Propensities are the objective manifestation of Jina Purusa, the Knowing Principle

Secondly: - The original ("subjective") Krta Purusa "relates to and controls" the propensities
- The original ("subjective") Jina Purusa "relates to and controls" the inferences

Further, Krta Purusa and Jina Purusa together are called "Niirvishesa" (conceptual subject), whereas the propensities and inferences together are "Savishesa" (conceptual object). This, in very condensed form, is Shrii Sarkar's new system of cosmology. In a diagram we could visualise it is follows:

Now, what means "control" in this new cosmological diagram? For example, a group of people can be controlled. They can be controlled by a dictator, a tirant. A dictator controls with his thumb, pushing down the community to bow for his will. This goes against human psychology, so he will need to resort to military force. This is control by force. A community can also be guided by an inspired leader. Such a person will control with his finger, pointing into the direction of wellfare and progress. This is in tune with human psychology, and people may be inspired to follow by their own free will. This is a more subtle control. But there exists a third, yet more subtle form of control, and this is a purely subjective one. When a group of people shares a certain ideal, a subtle controlling centre may emerge spontaneously and people will organise themselves and move accordingly. This is the subtlest, emerging controlling centre, in fact it is purely subjective.

This subtlest form of control is illustrative of how Krta Purusa relates to the propensities: as an apparently spontaneously emerging nucleus. According to Shrii Sarkar, propensities can be cosmic or individual. Cosmic propensities manifest as various forms of inertia, in combination with the inferences forming the increasingly dense material factors. Individual propensities are the yogic "vrtiis" or mental afflictons (roughly emotions) and these could in way be viewed as various degrees of mental momentum or inertia.

Now, if many particles become coherent, that is, they organise themselves if the proper environmental conditions are met, they may solidify to form a living cell for example. The difference between a group of particles in the form of a cell, and an actually living cell, is the presence of a controlling nucleus. In a living cell, we say that the Krta Purusa emerges as the living spirit among atoms and molecules. This is still magic for science, but not for the spiritually oriënted microvita scientist.

Similarly, in the individual mental stratum, if our mental propensities become coherent, that is, if our emotions are balanced, Krta Purusa is bound to emerge as the living spirit in our mind, and this will give the mind the power to take action. Hence, life force is nothing but coherence among propensities, cosmic or individual. Where the original propensities are utilised and life-force is expressed, this forms a controlling centre, an individual or cosmic plexus. It is entirely systematic, but we cannot feel the original propensities directly.

While the Krta Purusa is the subtle controlling nucleus among particles of inertia or individual propensities, Jina Purusa is the emerging controlling centre among coherent inferences (i.e. inferential or sensory and motoric vibrations). That means, if our perceptions and actions are coherent, a certain degree of knowing principle is emanating out of their midst. Hence, "self-awareness" is nothing but the emerging effect, or inner controlling faculty of coherent action and perception. Where the original inferences are utilised and self-awareness is expressed, this also forms a controlling centre, the brain. According to Shrii Sarkar, "humans cannot have the original inferences".

At this point we may ask ourselves the question: "is this world created by Krta Purusa or Jina Purusa, or both?". The logical answer is: the entire universe is the direct and eternal progeny of Krta Purusa, whereas Jina Purusa creates a local feeling of existence. This means, all original vibrations in this universe move exclusively and harmoniously as per the system of Krta Purusa, and they are completely oblivious to any temporary figures appreciated by the Knowing Principle, the Jina Purusa. But the Jina Purusa creates a feeling of existence in the midst of the infinite vibrational ocean, however this serves only the individual mind, that is, the microcosm, it cannot affect the cosmic order directly.

We may understand the difference between Krta Purusa and Jina Purusa better by observing for example our internal organs. For example our heart, we know it has the function of circulating the blood. But the principle which originally created our heart, locked inside our dna, knows nothing about physiology. So we may say, the original creative principle ("geno-type") is "abstract" (allthough this is a bit an evasive term), and this is Krta Purusa. The manifestation ("fenotype"), that is, the heart as a physical pump, is the material form in time and space, and this is the knowing effect of Jina Purusa. The so called "fundamental factors" of philosophy are never perceived directly, they belong to the purely conceptional realm.

So "Krta Purusa" is the universal creative principle forming our internal and auxiliary organs (as a matter of fact, always "auxiliary" relative to the original propensities) and the Jina Purusa knows everything in a relative, temporary form. Krta Purusa is more close to our idea of God, the Creator of the universe, and is known as blissfull radiation, whereas Jina Purusa identifies with temporary, sequential flow thus creating a feeling of individual existence.

A spiral galaxy (photo Nasa) - whereever Krta Purusa emerges as the living spirit among cosmic or individual propensities, the shape of life is created - atomic, organic or cosmic. Gravity and inertia are the mere effect, not the cause. Time and space are created when a feeling of existence arises. This is the Jina Purusa.

As Krta Purusa is the universal controller, and not the controlled, the way for Jina Purusa to perpetuate its existence is to serve Krta Purusa by creating propensitive coherence. This is the cause and very nature of evolution and, collectively, this is neo-humanism. That is, Jina Purusa creates a feeling of existence, and this is the motivator. Krta Purusa serves all entities with direct blissfull emanations, that is verily, inferential coherence of various kinds, creating the original forms of living stars and planets and other habitats, and all organic bodies, glandular and nervous system. So, whereas Jina Purusa is the motivator of survival, evolution and emancipation, Krta Purusa is the facilitator. Krta Purusa and Jina Purusa function both within the periphery of the individual mind, but Krta Purusa is primarily its cosmic aspect, whereas Jina Purusa represents the actual individual aspect.

The science of how "abstract" and matter are linked specifically and systematically, in the atom, in the organism and in the cosmos, this is microvita theory. It is the science of systematising inferences and propensities. Microvitum is but the minutest expression and quantification of this universal system, that is verily, the impact of inferences on propensities within the periphery of the atomic habitat.

Now, summarising we arrive at a clear definition of life, in the light of microvita cosmology, as follows:

Life is the cosmos facilitating and nurturing the individual's feeling of existence.

This goes to the extend of not only providing food and shelter, that is, a natural habitat, but verily includes the organic body itself, and ultimately pure bliss which are all but manifestations of cosmic faculty. This is all the creation and emanation of Krta Purusa, and Jina Purusa constitutes a flow of existence in this inferential ocean. Without Krta Purusa, the innate propensities would flow forever without shelter, and humanity would never emerge on the planet. Along the lines of the diagram of microvita cosmology, we can clarify as follows: Krta Purusa is the universal controlling nucleus, facilitating Jina Purusa's feeling of existence.

"The Creation of Adam" (1508-1512, fresco, Sistene Chapel) - One of the most famous paintings of Michelangelo Buonarotti , showing God giving the "spark of life" to Adam, who's body was created out of the soil. The painting is full of geometric clues, possibly while Michelangelo, like many artists of those times (e.g. Leonardo da Vinci, Mozart) is thought to be introduced in one of the covert societies preserving ancient cultural and scientific knowledge suppressed by - curiously enough - the Vatican.. who paid for the painting job. For example, the entourage of the God figure is thought to depict the anatomy of an organ (liver)..
